Beyond the Pale
October 2009
Beyond the Pale comes as a response (in its double entendre) to the fact that the warming of the climate has created a situation where Grizzly bears are now migrating northward and competing for resources in what was formerly only Polar Bear habitat. The projection of an all to human response (xenophobic and racist) onto this situation, acts to highlights the situation in an overtly provocative albeit tongue and cheek gesture, but also alludes to a more familiar resistance to another brown/black northerly movement, that of immigration in traditionally white Europe and America.
