If the 808/909 drum machines gave birth to Techno, then what would be the progeny of the Radel system of electronic taalmalas and saanrangs? Radel Electronics Pvt. Ltd. has manufactured electronic Indian musical instruments since 1979 primarily to facilitate classical Indian musician’s practice sessions. Mehfil is inspired by Detroit’s history of musical ingenuity, communities of innovators and anti-authoritarian culture, and reimagines those gesture through an immigrant lens, altering the Radel instruments’ traditional sounds into new interpretations in the raag o/ D1++.
